Maintenance Planner

We have been retained by a long time client to fill the role of a Maintenance Planner.  The MAINTENANCE PLANNER is responsible for planning of equipment repairs, monitoring, evaluating and maintaining the necessary parts for scheduled maintenance. The Maintenance Planner has the organizational freedom and authority, as defined by the Maintenance Manager, to provide the necessary assistance in scheduling manpower and securing materials and to participate in the implementation of safety programs to ensure the safety of assigned employees, to ensure that employees have received the appropriate training required to satisfactorily perform their responsibilities and to ensure that such training has been appropriately recorded. The Maintenance Planner is specifically given the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product or process, or to the quality system. The Maintenance Planner has the authority to identify and the responsibility to record any problems related to the product, process or system, and to initiate, recommend or provide solutions through the Maintenance Manager, and the Site Operations Manager. When solutions have been approved and implemented, the Maintenance Planner has the responsibility to participate in the implementation of those solutions. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for participating in the implementation and maintenance of the site Operation Preventive Maintenance system.

  • Plans Work Orders: Serves as administrator for work order management system (Computerized Maintenance Management System - CMMS). Ensures that Work Orders are properly generated, planned, filled out with necessary details, and closed.
  • Parts Management: Maintains spare-parts inventory with established minimum and maximum stocking quantities, stocking storage locations with delivered items, and oversees Vendor Managed Inventory.
  • Creates Schedules: Assigns tasks to maintenance staff and contractors by aligning timelines (with all involved parties) based upon skillsets, confirmed availability of all resources, parts and tools.
  • Collection of Inputs: Ensures all required parts, supplies, and tools are available, by developing and maintaining a planned work order backlog, maintenance master plan, production plan, internal labor plan and confirming resource availability.
  • Long Term Planning: Prepares annual and bi-annual maintenance schedules for all major plant equipment and plant areas (e.g. backup generators, scrubbers, air compressors, water supply, boilers, etc.). Plans should include detailed schedules of all tasks to be performed, the necessary resources allocated both internal and external, the preparation of all work descriptions for outsourced activities, the identification and ordering of critical spares and/or special tools or equipment needed for the planned repairs, and the overall preparation of the major outage activities. Major outage schedules should include a budgetary estimate of the work to be performed.
  • Monthly/Weekly Planning: Prepares monthly and weekly maintenance schedules of all major equipment and the preparation of all Preventive Maintenance work. Maintains frequent communication with the production department to ensure the equipment will be made available to maintenance when due for inspections and repairs.
  • Daily planning: Prepares all maintenance activities to be performed each day according to mid/long-term plans, in addition to any identified issues from the plant operation (typically feedback from shift or production). Daily plans should include the list of tasks to be performed in each area of the plant, the allocation of necessary resources, the administration of the work orders issued or in the backlog (including any specific details - safety or otherwise) related to any of the tasks in the plan.
  • Builds and Manages Knowledge: Develops knowledge within the maintenance team and leverages it for optimal performance by building and sharing a knowledge database to enhance job plans (inspection and execution).Helps identify repetitive problems, troubleshoot equipment and develop and implement solutions.
  • Oversees condition based monitoring to predict required maintenance before failure occurs.
  • Coordinates investigations of critical failures and report findings.
  • Leads Scheduling Meetings: Validates priorities and availability of equipment. Sets priorities for execution, keeping all involved plant functions aligned through weekly meetings and backlog management.
  • Plans and directs the work of the Auxiliary Maintenance Technicians
  • Assists with any other duties and projects as required.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in related engineering field preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an industrial, military or manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge and understands the maintenance processes and proper use of the work order system, planning and scheduling and storeroom processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirement and skills needed to complete a job.  Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work. Excellent organizational skills required. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and have demonstrated the ability to be approachable and tactful. Demonstrated ability to write and provide simple and accurate instructions.
  • Intermediate math skills and computer skills required.  Advanced math and computer skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read standard blueprints, machine and process drawings. Demonstrated ability to sketch or redline existing drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with peers, department leaders, and other associates/customers to ensure effective execution of maintenance programs to support the business.
  • Experience in project management preferred.
  • Experience with CMMS preferred.
