Automation Engineer

We are working with a leading manufacturing company in the Dayton area in need of adding an Automation Engineer to their team.  This will be a key position within the reliability department due to increased automation within their facilities. They are looking for an innovative mind to be a key driver of differentiation and competitive advantage throughout their plants.  Primary responsibilities include machine electronics design, commissioning, and troubleshooting.  Technical areas will include AC drives, DC drives, Servo Drives, VFDs, PLCs, motion controls, sensors and general electrical.
 
Essential Job Functions
Electrical
  • Develop electrical design, schematics and drawings in AutoCAD
  • Interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements
  • Develop electrical bill of materials
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware per application specifications
  • Work with electrical technician to commission systems
Software
  • Design and develop software applications based on given requirements and specifications
  • Design and develop intuitive GUI/communication interfaces
  • General
  • Review and design plant controls network  
  • Review, repair, troubleshoot and redesign current and legacy electronics
  • Write user manuals to communicate functionality of developed electronics systems
  • Comply with the company safety procedures. Live the company culture of integrity and professional competence
  • Provide timely and detailed status updates.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS degree in engineering (Electrical or Computer Science) or related discipline Highly Preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in the automation industry, 5+ years preferred, 10+ years of experience without degree
  • Proficient in Design/Drafting Tools AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Proficient in Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron)
  • Configuring and designing HMI systems (e.g. Allen Bradley, EXOR)
  • AC & DC Drive configuration (e.g. Control technique, Siemens, Lenze, Omron)
  • Servo and VFD experience
  • Familiar with Industry Standards for Safety
  • Familiar with Vision Systems (e.g. Keyence)
  • Familiar with various Motion Controllers/Actuators (e.g. Yasakawa, FANUC, Kuka)
  • Familiar with thin client and data acquisition server
  • Familiar with industrial networks
  • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues.
  • Effective communication (internal and external)
  • Ability to manage large project orders or multiple projects at once.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and collaboration skills.
